About This Place

El Rocoto is a vibrant Peruvian restaurant located in the heart of Gardena, California, that invites diners to embark on an unforgettable culinary journey through Peru’s rich and diverse flavors. Renowned for its authentic dishes expertly crafted with love and tradition, El Rocoto consistently delights both longtime aficionados and newcomers to Peruvian cuisine.

From the moment you step inside, the warm and welcoming atmosphere sets the stage for a truly satisfying dining experience. The aroma of sizzling anticuchos and the vibrant hues of freshly prepared ceviches greet you, stimulating your senses and preparing your palate for what’s to come.

El Rocoto’s menu is a treasure trove of Peruvian classics and inventive specialties. Among the standout dishes, the Aji De Gallina offers a comforting blend of shredded chicken in a creamy, mildly spicy aji amarillo sauce, rich and velvety on the tongue. The Chaufa Especial infuses the familiar fried rice with bold Asian-Peruvian fusion flavors, showcasing the cultural interplay that defines much of Peru’s culinary identity.

Seafood lovers will find themselves enchanted by offerings like the Pescado a lo Macho, where succulent shrimp, squid, mussels, scallops, and octopus swim in a luscious aji amarillo cream sauce atop a perfectly cooked fish fillet with accompanying rice—a dish bursting with ocean freshness interwoven with subtle spicy depths. The Cebiche Tasting

For fans of heartier fare, dishes such as Carne a Lo Pobre and the Tallarin Saltado-Beef serve up robust, savory flavors that celebrate Peruvian home cooking. El Rocoto’s versions are deeply satisfying, crafted with high-quality ingredients that elevate these traditional recipes to a new level of indulgence. Don’t miss the Papa Rellena, a golden, crispy-studded potato creation brimming with flavorful fillings that transport you to the streets of Lima.

The meal wouldn’t be complete without sampling the signature Pisco Sour, a tangy, frothy cocktail that perfectly balances sweet, sour, and aromatic notes—the perfect complement to the rich, layered dishes.

The personalized touches extend beyond the plates; the Cilantro Green Hot Sauce and Red Hot Sauce prove indispensable accompaniments, adding just the right amount of heat and brightness to elevate every dish without overwhelming the palate.

El Rocoto’s loyal patrons echo the exceptional quality and care invested in every visit. Aaron Peterman praises the “unique and exciting” flavors and highlights the “best fettuccine” he’s ever had, while Irene Flores recalls it as “a perfect start to the evening,” fascinated by the burst of flavor in every bite from fresh ceviche to lomo saltado. Don Buenaventura, a decade-long regular, reflects on how the restaurant consistently satisfies his cravings, and Matthew commends both the food and service, claiming it to have the "best Arroz con Pollo" he’s tasted.

Whether you’re seeking a lively night of flavorful discovery or a comforting meal that feels like a warm embrace from Peru, El Rocoto stands as a beacon of genuine culinary craftsmanship in Gardena. Each visit promises dishes that linger long in memory and a dining experience imbued with passion and authenticity.

Great food, unique and exciting. I left happy. Best fettuccine I've ever had, I wish there was more steak considering the menu photo, but I suppose it's fair considering the price.

We stopped by El Rocoto before heading to the Summer Nights 2025 Brandon Lake & Phil Wickham concert, and wow—what a perfect start to the evening! The Peruvian cuisine here is absolutely delicious—each dish was bursting with flavor, cooked to perfection, and served with heart. From the fresh ceviche to the savory lomo saltado, every bite felt like a little celebration. Service was friendly, the vibe was welcoming, and it set the tone for a beautiful night ahead. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Peruvian food that hits the spot and then some!
